Orb merging
Nearby XP orbs combine into one entity with their total value.
Clumps Mod helps combine experience orbs in Minecraft, reduce lag, and improve gameplay performance for a smoother and more enjoyable gaming experience.
Every XP orb in vanilla Minecraft is its own entity. A mob grinder or a big smelting session can spawn hundreds of them, and every one has to be ticked, moved and synced by the server.
Clumps Mod fixes that by grouping nearby orbs into a single orb that carries their combined value. Players also pick orbs up the moment they touch them, instead of one by one.
Nothing is lost: the total XP stays exactly the same. You just get it with a fraction of the entities.
Clumps brings nearby experience orbs together, keeping their combined XP ready to collect.
Activities such as defeating mobs create experience orbs around your world.
Clumps groups nearby orbs into fewer entities. Each merged orb carries their combined XP value.
Pick up the merged orbs as you play. You keep the total experience with fewer orbs to collect.
The answer depends on your Minecraft version. Pick yours:

Touch an orb and it's yours — no waiting for them one by one.
Fewer entities to tick and sync on farms and grinders.
From 1.17 onward, only the server needs it. Vanilla clients can join.

Clumps Mod needs a mod loader. If your server runs Paper, Spigot or plain vanilla, here are your real options.
The Clumps mod can't run on Paper — it's a Fabric/Forge/NeoForge mod. But Paper (via Spigot) already merges XP orbs. Raise the radius in spigot.yml:
world-settings:
default:
merge-radius:
exp: 6.0
Restart the server after changing it.
There's a third-party Paper plugin also called Clumps, by InventoXtar. It merges orbs in a similar way but is not made by Jaredlll08 or connected to this mod.
Clumps is only released as a mod. There is no official Clumps datapack. For vanilla servers, the simplest route is switching to Fabric and adding the mod, or using Paper's built-in merging.
mods folder..minecraft/mods folder instead.$ cp Clumps-neoforge-26.3-26.3.2.jar server/mods/ $ ./run.sh [INFO] Loading mod clumps 26.3.2 [INFO] Done! XP orbs will now clump.
Check the selected release for its exact dependencies before installing.
The latest build: Clumps 26.3.2 for NeoForge 26.3. Other versions are in the grid above.
Download Clumps 26.3.2It merges nearby XP orbs into a single entity and lets players pick them up instantly. Total XP stays the same, but there are far fewer entities.
On Minecraft 1.17 and newer it's server-side: only the server needs it. In singleplayer, install it in your own mods folder. On 1.16.5 and older, both client and server need it.

No. Clumps is only released as a mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge.
No. Merged orbs carry the combined value of every orb they absorbed.
