FPS Drops and Server Lag: What to Record

Separate local rendering symptoms from multiplayer responsiveness when testing a mod.

Published

Describe the symptom precisely

Write down whether the camera movement looks uneven, actions receive delayed responses, or only one location feels slow. Include when the issue begins and what the player is doing. A clear description is more useful than labeling every problem as lag.

Compare players and locations

Ask whether another player notices the same delay at the same time. Compare a quiet area with the farm where the problem occurs. Keep resource packs, graphics settings and other mods unchanged while checking a single installation change.

Collect evidence before changing settings

Save timestamps, client logs and server logs for a short affected session. If you use a profiler, keep the original report and describe the workload. Treat the result as evidence for the next investigation rather than immediately changing several settings. When your initial test does not isolate a cause, repeat it with fewer background activities and write down what remains different.
